Falling for Velvet

It’s never easy to say goodbye to summer, but I found myself clinging to this summer in particular since it came and went in a flash, at least for me. I spent the majority of the season pregnant or home with a new baby, and maternity wear was the wardrobe du jour. Once I was finally back in my old clothes, it was already time to fall for layers and textures and I was saying goodbye to the summery dresses and white jeans that I never really got to say hello to.

Adios, shorts, adios.

Luckily, I got my hands on a few amazing fall pieces that I was super excited to style and put on my new mom bod. A fab velvet bootie and ruffled blouse had me saying “what summer?” in a nanosecond.

Marc Fisher Velvet Bootie

I audibly gasped when I pulled these Marc Fisher velvet booties out of their box and I’m sure you can see why. From their chic, super on-trend color, to the soft flocked material, they are a total showstopper. Modern, yet victorian, with an ideal heel height for comfort, I was obsessed from the first look.

The styling options were limitless with the boot  — these would work with jeans, leggings, tights, bare legs — and I opted for the latter given our warm temps still hanging on in Chicago this week.

I paired this pretty, crepe ruffled blouse with an easy, breezy circle skirt to complete the look. I wanted something feminine and ruffly (is that even a word?) to compliment the romance of the velvet bootie and this felt like a win. It was honestly the most affordable little outfit ever. The blouse is from Forever21 and the skirt I nabbed online from H&M. You can’t beat that!

I love that lip color on you. Normally you tend to go in the soft neutral tones. It looks very pretty.

Brett, as I’m sitting here with Katherine I’m saying how stunning you look and I love the haircolor. I don’t know if you remember me but I was friends with your dad before Katherine became his Mrs.
