It was almost at this exact same time last year I was posting about the baby sprinkle I hosted for my best friend, Erica, of Everything Erica. After just another short trip around the sun, I’m back sharing about a baby shower, however this time, it’s for my own beautiful Pinterest-inspired soiree thrown by Erica for me.
We’ve traded spaces, managing to conceive exactly one year apart (not planned), and have even returned to our favorite locale for entertaining, Cafe Spiaggia.
When Erica asked me if I wanted to do something different from last year, I really couldn’t imagine going anywhere else. Cafe Spiaggia has become the special place where we celebrate major milestones in the style to which we’ve grown quite accustomed: with wonderful company, amazing food, and beyond beautiful décor.
Erica met with Chef/Partner Tony Mantuano, Executive Chef Joe Flamm, and Beverage Director Rachael Lowe to carve out a stunning menu full of all of my favorite things (and a few of my pregnancy craving must-haves, too… I’m looking at you, wild boar ragu).
With so many of Chicago’s blogger babes on hand, not only does the food have to be on-point, but of course it has to be Instagram-worthy, right? Cafe Spiaggia always checks these boxes for us. I always joke that we’re not a ‘salad and water’ type of crew — us babes looove to EAT! It’s not too often you roll out an eight course lunch at a shower, but planner extraordinaire Erica wouldn’t have it any other way!
From speciality rosè cocktails and burrata, to gnocchi and pappardelle, the menu impressed, satiated, and left us all in foodie heaven.
Adding sweet little touches like gorgeous flower crowns from Crowning Event made this baby shower day so whimsical and fun. Erica got darling flora and fauna crowns for all of the girls so that our photo ops would be lovely and just the right amount of over the top, because you know this girl adores having a moment. And with these crowns, we had several… even taking the action down to bustling Michigan Avenue below to strut our stuff and capture the beautiful day among friends.
If you want to add a really special element to any shower, I think this should be it. It could even be especially interactive and fun to DIY the flower crowns and have a ‘Crown Bar’ in place of traditional shower games for your guests.
We capped off the day by opening gifts and nibbling on stunning artisnal desserts by our friends Emily at Bon Vivant Cakes, Nicole at Windy City Dinner Fairy and Sherrie at Sweet Mandy B’s. Because why have just one dessert when you can have a table FULL of them?!
An abundant, overflowing dessert oasis certainly never hurt the aesthetic of a baby shower, am I right? I’m pretty sure I gasped audibly when I walked into the room and saw all of these gorgeous, sugary creations in a signature hue of Tiffany blue awaiting me.
From an incredible ombrè cake and mini cupcakes, to funky cake and frosting filled cones, to little lamb cupcake favors and sweet, little sheep cookies, my sugar high was on level 100.
All I can say is WOW. This baby shower day was filled with such an outpouring of love, support and excitement for Baby Firdman, I was left positively overwhelmed. Erica and the Cafe Spiaggia team really outdid themselves and I’m so appreciative and thankful that I was able to have this experience before things in life take quite the change!
Now all I’m really left wondering is, who we will shower back here same time, next year?!
