Hi friends! I have something super exciting and very personal to share with you today… it’s a tour of my Chicago home in Roscoe Village. I was approached by Neighborhooding, a fantastic Chicago-based website that brings people together to showcase Chicago’s many neighborhoods, to discuss my ‘hood, why I love it (and don’t) and what living in Roscoe Village looks like from within. Founder and editor of Neighborhooding, Lauren Painter, knows Chicagoans can be pretty fanatic about their city and so much of that simply boils down to where they live – and why.
Having Neighborhooding into my home was fantastic. I loved telling the story behind why I chose Roscoe Village, how long I’ve lived here, what my favorite neighborhood spots are, and more. You can find the full interview here, but let’s party on with the home tour, shall we?
Lending a stylish edge to a boring entryway isn’t always easy. I tried bringing some unique focal interest with a modern lighting piece and a few Warhol prints. I did see some stunning interior barn light designs but I just felt that this design would suit the room and current design much better, especially with the gold/copper effect.
Our living room is classic Chicago: Long and SKINNY! I use a lot of easy-to-move seating pieces like a metal Bertoia chair and a few ottomans to create seating clusters that are more conducive to entertaining when friends visit. The rug really ties the seating area together around the coffee table. Every living room should have a rug! If you are looking to get one, or if your current one is just a bit tattered, you can get a new one here!
There’s a nice sized guest bedroom + office combo off the living room where one of my most treasured decor item lives… a beautiful dreamcatcher made in my hometown, Los Angeles. I was going to buy a sofa bed from here but I think the current set-up is working pretty well at the minute!
I love that I can see it from the living room while I’m watching tv, or more often, working on blog posts.
The guest bath has a KILLER shower with a travertine bench and glass block to the outdoors. It makes me smile knowing my visitors have a nice little spa sanctuary of their own when they come to stay.
But us gals needs somewhere to eat, am I right? This kitchen SOLD me on this duplex condo. With so much space to spread out, cook, recipe test and shoot dishes, it’s a bloggers paradise! Granted, I’m aching to paint the whole thing white (I’m talking to you, cherry cabinets!) and rip out the counters in favor of light grey quartz, we’ll have to save that project for another day!
In the dining nook I tried bringing a little bit of travel-flavored inspiration with a street artist painting I picked up in Paris and textiles brought back from Indonesia.
Now it’s time for your daily workout… let’s head upstairs!
Upstairs holds the master bed, master bath, a full laundry room and private deck off the master… I call it “the tree house.” Once you go up there, there isn’t much reason to come back down.
I may be just a little bit obsessed with shoes…
That’s right, one pedestal sink and no drawers for this married couple. Talk about pain points. I had to get creative with some over-the-loo metal shelving and my darling husband Eric glued together a bunch of clear mini drawers to create a custom cosmetics storage system for me. Swoon.
Last, but certainly not least, the part I could never live without… our back decks and backyard. With both Eric and I being native Californians, outdoor space is a non-negotiable. We love putting our feet in the grass and hosting BBQ’s a-plenty for as long as the weather will allow. Come over for a cold one sometime, won’t ya?
Thanks for stopping by, I hope you enjoyed the tour! Make sure you check out Neighborhooding and their upcoming features in all of Chicago’s fabulous ‘hoods.
