A few weeks ago on Instagram I asked my followers to write in and tell me what topics they were most interested to hear about. Naturally, I expected lots of recipe inquires and food questions, but surprisingly, home décor and beauty/skincare advice topped the list. Who knew?! I’ll certainly get to work on demonstrating some great things you can do to spruce up the home, but in the meantime, my daily skincare routine is here for your reading pleasure. If you want to stay up to date on some of the latest skincare products, you can learn about the new Dramatically Different Hydrating Jelly Anti-Pollution from Clinique to get you started.
Before we get started, I’m going to peel back the layers a bit and share something with you. It may not seem like much, but it was actually quite scary to me (and probably would be for any gal in her 30’s and beyond). So, here it is:
The no-makeup selfie for all of you to see. If we’re going to talk my daily skincare routine, it’s only fair I show you what my bare skin actually looks like, right?
As you can see, I’ve got a little bit of a pinkness to my skin. It’s mostly around my nose and chin, it’s always been there, and “combatting the pink” is the daily battle I fight. Well, that and ultra dryness. My skin has very little oil content and is almost always craving moisture, especially around my nose (there’s a great blog on how to combat dry skin on the nose so check it out here: https://blog.reneerouleau.com/dry-nose-get-skin-stop-peeling/). The good news is that it doesn’t “eat” my cosmetics and I can rock a face of makeup from a.m. to p.m. without even the slightest hint of wear-off. The bad news? Dry skin precipitates wrinkles, rough skin surface and flaking. Luckily, there are skin balms out there that are excellent at hydrating dry skin. You can check out this CBD balm if you’re suffering from dry skin or other skin conditions like eczema, as CBD is excellent at tackling this. I hear a lot of women say they’re no longer going to use skincare products and proceed to tell me why I should have botox or something similar, but it just isn’t for me, I realize for some women it very well could be and for that reason you may want to look into why dermal filler is better than botox or similar cosmetic procedures.
The point is, this daily skincare routine may not be for everybody. This routine helps to aid in hydration, skin balance, anti-aging and elasticity. If these are trouble zones you’re trying to target, you may want to give some of my favorite products a try.
FOR CLEANSING:
SHISEIDO GENTLE CLEANSING CREAM
A luxuriously creamy cleanser, this rich formula can attack and dissolve makeup – even stubborn mascara – while leaving skin soft, hydrated and replenished. A little goes a LONG way, so stick to a pea-sized amount for normal cleansing. Did I also mention, it smells AMAZE-ING!
Believe the hype. A Clarisonic is something everyone should have in their beauty arsenal. A gentle removal of dead surface skin not only promotes healthy, new skin regeneration, but also achieves a deeper level of clean that your fingers can’t quite hack on their own. I don’t use my Clarisonic daily, but rather once per week for a deep clean, typically followed by a fantastic mask or treatment.
FOR MOISTURE:
LA FRESH ECO-BEAUTY GOOD DAY MOISTURIZER
My favorite lightweight, daytime moisturizer. Made with collagen-producing peptides, super-hydrating hyaluronic acid, natural cucumber, aloe and antioxidants, it’s super cooling and I love it as the perfect wakeup for skin in the morning.
JOSIE MARAN ARGAN MOISTURIZING OIL
This one is my nighttime moisture guru. I know oil products can scare some people as the thought is they will be greasy and pore-clogging. I assure you, this argan oil is the exact opposite. The formula is light and sinks into skin instead of sitting on top. Argan oil is loaded with Vitamin E and fatty acids, so it has amazing healing, conditioning, and repairing properties. I apply lightly and let it work as I sleep the night away.
FOR THE EYES:
TARTE MARACUJA C-BRIGHTER EYE TREATMENT
I was never a tremendous believer in eye cream until recently. I always thought my moisturizer should just do the trick around the eyes, too. Actually, that’s ridiculous. Targeting for hydration and targeting for brightness are two very different things. This product is a miracle worker at brightening around the eyes, and who doesn’t want that? With maracuja fruit and vitamin C, this treatment multitasks to hydrate, firm, and brighten the delicate eye-area. I use a little before bed and ALWAYS before putting my makeup on.
FOR ANTI-AGING:
If you want your best shot at combatting environmental damage and preventing wrinkles and the appearance of aging, this is it. Every dermatologist I’ve ever seen swears by the stuff, and on this one, I trust the pros. A few drops in the a.m., post-cleanse routine, will soak into the skin and protect against free radicals for up to 72 hours while simultaneously replenishing skin’s lipids and reducing wrinkles. I SWEAR by it.

I hope you’ll give some of these products a try combined with your daily routine. These winter months can be so drying to our precious faces, it’s important to start with a good foundation of great products. Oh! And water – duh! – TONS of water. Glowing skin always starts from the inside out.
Giiirrrrlll . . . get you some HEMP OIL for that dryness. It’s all I use, moisturizer and cleansing, and I have DRY skin and occasional eczema. It gets rid of the itch. AND if it doesn’t work for you, you can make a nice Pesto out of it. Think it’s around $10 for a GIANT bottle at WF, no preservatives, keep in refrig. Your skin is gorgeous, BTW, as are you! Mwah!
“make a nice pesto out of it”
hahahaha! Dying! I will definitely try the hemp oil. My skin is dry year-round. So itchy! Thanks for the recommendation, E!
But since I am a moisturizer whore, I’ve been watching out for Hyaluronic Acid as well. Plumpy!

I’m so in love with this post, and have added most of these to my to-buy list. And, I’m secretly hating you for your lack of under eye circles.
If you’re adding anything, make sure it’s the CE Ferulic. It’s a miracle in a bottle and I absolutely SWEAR by it. Worth the sort of $$$ price tag, for sure.
