A woman is most beautiful when she looks like herself.
I love that statement, and of course, I love makeup… but, what I’ve learned over years of experience and experimentation with makeup, is that it should be an enhancement of what you already have. You want your skin to look like skin! Just a dewier, more glowy version of it, right? Choosing something that looks natural while providing long wear and exceptional quality is always my goal when selecting cosmetics.
I recently teamed up with Macy’s and Bobbi Brown Cosmetics to test out their incredible line of foundation and concealer products. I replaced all of my regular go-to face makeup with the Bobbi Brown line to see how it would look and wear throughout the day.
How sleek and fabulous is that packaging? I was immediately struck by the clean lines and simple, monochromatic look of the Bobbi Brown Foundation line — ADORE! This is the kind of makeup you’re happy to keep on your counter and let play with your pretty perfume bottles.
For this test, I was giving the Skin Foundation, Creamy Concealer and Foundation Stick a go. I began with my eye makeup, eyebrows and lips already done, so everything else didn’t look a hot mess while we’re focusing on the face and foundation products. You’re welcome.
Here’s a quick look at my face and skin looked BEFORE digging into to the Bobbi Brown Foundation products:
After priming (a must), I started stippling on the Skin Foundation using a damp Beauty Blender sponge.
The coverage of the Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation was light, silky and buildable. This is NOT a heavy, caky foundation – AMEN! – because really, aren’t those the absolute worst? Sheer coverage is the name of the game here. A light application still had the natural tone of my skin showing through which was lovely. A quick application of a second layer deepened the coverage and created a look that was youthful and beautifully even.
I moved on to the Creamy Concealer next…
I concealed under the eyes by lightly patting the concealer using my ring finger underneath the eye in a triangular pattern. I LOVED this formula. The more the product warmed up to the touch of my finger, the more it melted into my skin. It brightened and smoothed my under eye without any creasing or build up. I did set the concealer with a setting powder (do this) — I didn’t have a Bobbi Brown product so I used the yellow highlight powder from my everyday contour kit.
Up next was a really fun product, the Foundation Stick! You could easily get this in a shade to match your skin and use this as a quick foundation or touch-up stick because of how easily it glides on. I chose it in a darker shade (I went with almond) and decided it would be a great, creamy contour option. Boy, was I right…
Focusing on the hollows of my cheeks (suck in your cheekbones if you’re not sure where those are), I filled in the hollowed space using the Foundation Stick. A light line is all you need! It looks a little crazy at first, but after you blend, blend, blend it in, you’re left with a natural cheek contour that is subtle but fabulous.
Like I said, blend that contour out! I use a MAC 188 duo fiber brush for blending out cream products.
Lastly, I finished off the look with a bit of blush. I happened to have a Bobbi Brown blush in my arsenal already and figured it would be the perfect bright touch to complete this look.
The overall finished aesthetic was natural but beautiful, and I’m happy to report that both the concealer and foundation lasted and wore all day long. I kept it on while packing up for my move this week – ugh – and it surprisingly didn’t fade or cake with hours of wear. Love that.
There’s no doubt I’ll be incorporating these Bobbi Brown foundation products into my everyday routine. Here is a peek at the finished look!

The foundation looks terrific, but didn’t you have makeup on already in the photos?
Good question, Junkshow! I mentioned it in the post… I did start out with my eye makeup and lips already done. I also had primed my skin with Bare Minerals tinted hydrating gel before I began. Since I was just focusing on the face products for this post, I wanted to be able to show a completed look!
Got it! I love it!
